Kim Tserkezie is an Actress, Writer and Producer with twenty years of broadcast experience.
She is perhaps best known for her work on the BAFTA award winning children’s show, Balamory. She has appeared as ‘Penny Pocket’ in 254 episodes of the CBeebies TV series which broadcast internationally including the US on Discovery Kids channel, and on stage in two extensive UK theatre and arena tours performing to tens of thousands of people. This role led Kim to be voted in a national poll as ‘the best representation of a wheelchair user on screen’ and one of the ‘most influential disabled people in the UK.’
Kim’s first TV drama role was as ‘Paula Simms’ alongside Robson Green and Imogen Stubbs in ITV’s prime time drama Blind Ambition. She then went on to play the lead role in What Are We Waiting For? - a short film for the Edinburgh TV and Film Festival as well as performing in several theatre productions with roles ranging from a ‘murdering temptress’, to an ‘archaeologist’ to Alan Bennett’s ‘Lady Rumpers’ in Habeas Corpus at Live Theatre, Newcastle. More recently, she played the Narrator in a musical theatre tour of The Jungle Book.
Before turning to drama she worked as a Presenter for BBC2 shows, Disability Today and From The Edge, writing and producing many of her own items. She has reported on topics as varied as children’s rights to microlighting. She has presented items for BBC Radio 4 and worked as a Researcher for current affairs and lifestyle/arts shows at BBC Radio Newcastle.
Kim set up TV/Film production company, Scattered Pictures in her home city, Newcastle upon Tyne in 2011 and is currently writing and producing a number of screen projects in collaboration with some of the UK’s most successful production companies, including a prime time TV drama series in co-development with Lime Pictures.
Kim was awarded Full membership to BAFTA in 2014.
